Tuesday morning started with reflecting on the experiences of students from face-to-face school yesterday. Most of them mentioned that their favourite part of the day was visiting the Science lab and conducting the experiments. Students were guided to draw the cycle and write the vocabulary related to this cycle.
After reflecting, we explored a very important tool- A thermometer. Students conducted another experiment with hot and cold water in two breakout rooms. They inserted the thermometer in two different tumblers with hot and cold water. Teachers asked questions to students to access their prior knowledge. They answered that we measure temperature with the thermometer.
We also checked today's temperature using the 'Accu Weather' app on Google.
An interactive thermometer was used during the lesson to identify and understand how to read the temperature using a thermometer.
Students also observed that the mercury rises when the temperature increases and when it is hot. The mercury level comes down when the temperature gets cooler.
Through this thermometer, students could also identify the different seasons with the help of images displayed next to the thermometer.
Some of the students could also make connections with different places where it snows and the temperature is very low at this time of the year.
While we were reflecting on the different cycles that we looked at, some students really got excited and showed their plants growing. They mentioned that we have addressed the life cycle of a plant and the water cycle till now. Teachers also helped them to reflect on their timeline as a part of their life cycle.
Thereafter, we observed the life cycle of a frog through a video. Students watched the video and reflected on the life cycle by creating a replica using playdough/ wheat dough. Students were guided to write the stages of frog's life cycle.
Students who did not have dough were guided to illustrate in their books and write the stages.
Lakshmi Ayra created a frog using her origami skills.
Students enjoyed explaining the life cycle of the frog they created. It was also interesting to know that they are aware of other life cycles too which we will explore later. :)
