Monday mornings are incomplete without Dr. Long's video message. This week he narrated a story from Greek mythology conveying an important lesson for life. Stay away from secrets to stay away from rumours and gossip.
A couple of students volunteered to explain Dr. Long's message. After reflecting, students grooved on the tunes of their favourite song- Freeze Dance. With the help of an interactive Hundred's board, we did a recap of skip counting of numbers by 1, 2, and 3. In breakout rooms, students were introduced to skip counting by 5 through the same tool along with a movement called 'Jumping Jacks'.
For their Art lesson, Ms. Neetu addressed the 'International Dot Day' by reading the book aloud- 'The Dot' by Peter. H. Reynolds. She then encouraged all students to be the Vashti's (the main character of the book) friends and express themselves through drawing and colouring dots. Students were given a choice to use any medium- drawing, creating, and painting.
Students came up with some iridescent dots' creating a dragon, space, polka dots, and others.
In the last lesson, we focussed on writing direction in handwriting. Initially, students were guided to write their names in the air using one of their five senses. Later, we worked in three breakouts with a smaller group of students to practice handwriting with a guiding direction by the teachers.
We had an assembly this afternoon at 2 pm to mark the 'International Day of Peace' which is tomorrow (officially). Students of Grade 4 and 5 planned and designed the assembly with the help of their teachers. Other grade-level students participated in the assembly in different activities. Our chief guest for today's assembly was Ms. Reena. She displayed a video and asked intriguing questions to students for them to reflect. Some strategies were shared for conflict resolution through roleplay and Kelso's wheel of choice.
A book called 'I am Peace' by Susan Verde was read aloud by a student from Grade 5. The link to the book is here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnR5HDfR3JI for your reference. This book can be considered as our 'Book of the week'. :)
