Marvellous Monday

Morning meeting on Mondays are dedicated to Dr. Long's video message. We watch the video together as a whole class and then reflect on his message in the breakout rooms.
Dr. Long used the 'adaptor' as a metaphor to give us all an important message about being pluralistic. He mentioned- the way adaptor helps us to receive electricity provided by different sockets in different countries irrespective of other factors. Similarly, we need to be open-minded and flexible wherever we go and in every situation we are in. Pluralism is one our Aga Khan Co-curricular Strands and Dr. Long explained it beautifully with a simple example. :)
We had a discussion about our unit-end celebrations this morning where students voted for the colour/dress-code for that day.
Initially, there was a tie between the two colours blue and yellow. With just one vote extra to blue, we all decided that we will all wear blue (any shade) for the unit-end celebration.
For Maths, students played a game with egg trays/ ice-cube trays and counters to understand and represent the concept of addition of numbers.

Students wrote numbers and arranged in the cavities. They were guided to put two beans/ counters and cover the tray to shuffle the beans. The beans that arrive on the numbers were to be added. The examples shared by the students are:

We were in breakout rooms during the learning engagement.
Some students added one-digit numbers and some of them were comfortable adding two-digit with one-digit numbers and the others managed to create two-digit numbers and add them. This is the beauty of differentiation and personalized learning. :)
