Week three with a spree

Our Monday mornings begin with Maths concepts and Dr. Long's inspiring message. This week we played 'I spy' where students counted different objects in the picture.
Dr. Long narrated Johny Appleseed's story with an actual apple to make students understand the importance of kindness and goodness in our lives. His message for us was to spread love and kindness. Students reflected on his video in groups and came up with beautiful responses. This also aligns well with our 'Kindness project' where we ask ourselves every day- 'Have you filled a bucket today?'
Students watched a Maths Start book called 'Jack the Builder' by Stuart J Murphy on 'Counting'. They were then introduced to the ten frames (tool) to understand the concept. The students tried it hands-on with the help of ice cube trays and empty egg cartons. We will continue to practice the concept using similar resources.
The students also identified the differences between 5, 10, and 20 frames.
Students were introduced to rhyming words last week. This week they came up with real objects to revisit the concept of identifying and learning rhyming words. They brought objects like a lock, clock, pen, hen, car, jar, and many more.
They were then asked to make a note of all the rhyming words in their books. The students were also given a choice to draw.
On Tuesday, we gave an opportunity to students to teach the teachers during the morning message. They were very excited to express their talents and what they would like to teach us. We discussed their responses in the breakout rooms.  Many of them wanted to be swimming coaches for the teachers. Some of them have also volunteered to teach a few things during the student-led session this week.

We had also had our student council nomination and selection session today. Students came up with the idea of voting the nominated people. The students first nominated 4 people and shared their votes in the chat window.
For our SEL lesson, Ms. Latha guided us to express our emotions through an activity called 'I like myself'. We had the discussions in three break-out rooms where the students expressed their feelings about when they feel happy, what makes them sad, what are they scared/ afraid about?
Ms. Latha also played this video for us to dance on. It helps us to get active and rejuvenate our minds and bodies. This action dance focuses on moving all body parts from head to toe.
Students had a unique way of bidding goodbye today that brought smiles to both the teachers' faces. :)
